My favourite props and images they’ve featured in

Including props in photography can really help to visually express a theme and set the mood of the images. I love a good prop and here at The Attic Room studio, the shelves are packed full of all kinds of bits and pieces, both large and small, to use in my product and personal branding shoots.

Here are my top 5 favourite props that I could not be without, and some images they have featured in:

The Cheetah Vase

If you follow me on Instagram you’ll know how much I love this Cheetah Vase. I actually picked it up from Sainsbury’s home section last year (and it was in the sale - bonus!) I was unsure on how I would use it in my photos but I knew I would find a way. Either way, it is definitely a cute addition to the studio shelves. I love to use this vase as a prop when shooting for businesses that have bold, bright packaging and quite a quirky style. I feel it really complements this type of brand!

Linen

Linens are a great way to add layers into product imagery, which creates texture and depth, and also more of a lifestyle feel. My favourite place to pick up linen is either Dunelm (great for large cuttings on fabric) or Wilbur and Wolf. They have such a gorgeous range of fabrics in all sorts of sizes and colours. My favourites are the smaller linens in the white, beige and pink colours. Peek one into the corner of your image to add something extra to the shot, or try using it as an entire backdrop!

Rattan Mirror

I added this gorgeous Rattan Mirror to a big Ikea order I did when I first moved into the studio space. I initially ordered it as a mirror to hang on the wall in here, but came to realise that if it’s in the studio, it has potential to be a prop! So it soon started to appear in my product photographs. Rattan and hessian textures are perfect for bringing across the more scandi & serene vibes in your photographs.

Fake plants / dried flowers

Who doesn’t love a good house plant?! I prefer to use fake plants in my photography as they are easier to manoeuvre if you want to position them a particular way. However, I think that both fake and real plants always add a nice touch to any photograph! My recent obsession is with dried flowers - I have a big colourful bunch and I pick out the colours to match the palettes I’m working with.

Cute Stationery

I have become a bit of a stationery addict since expanding my range of photography props and there’s now two big baskets full of stationery in the studio including books, notepads, pens, scissors, ribbons, and even multi coloured pom poms! Stationery is great for creating lifestyle set-ups. Think working from home, office vibes, chilling at the weekend reading a good coffee table book or journalling in your favourite notepad. Pop your product in there and you’ve got a bank of product images that are perfect for social media use!

What props would you say best represent your brand? Can you incorporate these into your next shoot?

If you have booked in for a shoot with me, or are thinking of doing so, you are always welcome to bring your own props along to your photography session! This can really help tell your brand’s story even more, adding personality and variety to the imagery we create together. If it’s a face-to-face branding shoot, props can also give you something to hold when posing and help to relax you if you're feeling any pre-shoot jitters (which is so natural!).
